Description

Three Aston Martins racing in the 1925 JCC 200 mile race, Booklands. In the fore is chassis 1934, crewed by George and Basil Eyston, race number 16 who later retired; behind is Hooker-Thomas engined TT1/1913 (Green Pea) with a distinctive front, driven by Bobby Morgan, race number 15 also retired; the last car to round the marker barrel is #9, Frank Halford's Halford special. The back has been marked up by Dudley Coram for reduction for publication, and it was published in AM magazine no.10.25, p.50. at the end of an article by George Eyston on the 1923 version of this 200 mile race.
This was the race in which Humphrey Cook sadly crashed, in the 16 valver (chassis 1961) especially built for this race.Nearly 30 years later, Lord Charnwood (the Hon.John Benson) rebuilt the car.
On 11 November 1925, only two months after this race, the Company (Bamford and Martin Ltd.) went into receivership.
An enlargement of this photo, showing the three cars, was used on the front/back cover of ASTON Issue 11 (pub. dec 2009), the AMHT journal. Inside that issue, David Burgess-Wise has written a comprehensive article on Aston Martins that raced at Brooklands between the wars (1920-1939).
