'The Origin of Aston Martin': a copy of the plaque placed at the top of Aston Hill, Aston Clinton, Buckinghamshire, UK on 23 May 1997.

Place

Aston Hill

Description

Copy of the plaque placed on the cairn at the top of Aston Hill. The Cairn was erected in May 1997 by the AMOC and AML.
Headed by an illustration of AM 270 in 1923, the text reads:
"From 1904 to 1925, Aston Hill part of the Lord Rothschild's estate, was a renowned motoring venue. Lionel Martin made his first ascent of the hill, in a tuned Singer car, on the 4th April 1914. Shortly afterwards, on the 16th May, at the Herts County Automobile and Aero Club meeting, he was so successful, that the sporting light car first registered in his name in March 2015, was called an "ASTON-MARTIN". It was the start of a legend in the history of the automobile. This plaque was placed here by the Aston Martin Owners Club and Aston Martin Lagonda Ltd."
A full set of photographs taken on the day of unveiling (by John Martin and Lady Paula Brown) is in the Archive.
