Description

1931 RAC International Tourist Trophy race, Class Winner trophy.
The inscription on the lid reads ‘R.A.C / International Tourist Trophy Race / 1931 / Ards Circuit Belfast / Class F /
Driver Major C M Harvey / On an Aston Martin Car’.
The trophy stands on a circular wooden plinth painted black. The mid section has rectangular and plaited detailing with 3 winged ladies. Around the top of the bowl are repeated engravings of 5 racing cars mid race, with exhaust fumes. The removable lid is engraved and has a finial on top.
The Aston Martin car was LM5, entered as part of the three car Aston Martin Works team of LM5, LM6 and LM7. Charles Maurice Harvey was Aston Martin’s Sales Director and had joined the list of Works’ team drivers. In this particular race, he finished 14th overall, but 1st for cars in Class F.
The trophy is sterling silver, with hallmarks for the Lion Passant of English silver, the Leopard’s Head of the London mark and the ‘q’ date stamp of 1931-32. The makers mark ‘C B & S’ is from Charles Boyton & Son Ltd, Upper Charles Street, London.
